Who comes to Welcome Pilates

Every in person class is capped at twelve. That cap is the whole reason your teacher can see how you are actually moving and give you a correction by name, rather than calling a room through a routine. Fifty-five minutes, once or twice a week.

Our clients run from 18 to 70+, and there are men in every class. We have taught people managing back, hip, shoulder, neck and knee pain, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and scoliosis, alongside runners, golfers and swimmers who want to move better in their own sport.

Two Twickenham venues for in person classes. Live Zoom classes capped at fourteen, so corrections still get called out by name. And a recorded library you can use at home, at work or on holiday.
Never done it before?
Slow, controlled movement on the floor, using your own bodyweight, with a teacher watching how you move. That is the whole of it.
Every Twickenham group class is mat Pilates: controlled bodyweight movement on the floor. There is no apparatus to learn and nothing to set up. You lie down, and the teacher takes it from there.
The three principles every class is built on. In practice that means slow, precise movement, breath that matches what you are doing, and a teacher watching how you are actually moving rather than how the exercise is supposed to look.
Every exercise comes with levels, called out loud as the class runs. You work with how your body feels on the day instead of pushing to a fixed standard. Nothing here is punishing.
One class a week, or two, is the normal way in. Expect a mix of challenge and relaxation, and to leave walking taller rather than needing a day to recover.
Mat is what runs in Twickenham and online, and it is what almost everyone starts with. The Reformer, Cadillac and Trapeze Table live at the private studio in Battersea and are worked one to one with Lucy. If you have heard that Pilates means a machine with springs and straps, that is the equipment side, and it is a separate thing you can add later.
In person, online, on demand
Group classes run at two Twickenham venues, Holy Trinity on the Green and Mint on Church Street. Every class, in the room or on Zoom, runs 55 minutes.

The one most people start with.
Monday 12pm at Mint on Church Street with Rhiannon, then Monday 7:30pm and Wednesday 6pm at Holy Trinity with Lucy and Mia. Complete beginners are welcome: every exercise has options and they are called out as the class runs. Maximum 12 people.

When All Levels stops being enough.
Monday 6:30pm at Holy Trinity with Lucy, for people with a settled practice who want more range and more load. Same room, same cap of 12, a harder 55 minutes.

Same class, your front room.
All Levels on Friday 10am and Advanced on Wednesday 6:30pm, both with Lucy. Capped at 14 so corrections still get called out by name. Lucy contacts every new online client before their first class to talk through goals and any injuries. All times GMT.

Pilates on the days you cannot get to a class.
A members only recorded library you can filter by level, teacher, mood and the time you have. It includes Pilates for back pain, the Pilates Fundamentals series and meditation sessions. Use it at home, at work or on holiday.

Once a year, in a 17th century castle.
Five days on the border of Umbria and Tuscany: daily Pilates, food from the estate, a pool, and excursions to Lake Bolsena and Orvieto. Places are limited and it sells out. Get in touch through the contact page and we will send you the dates and what is included.
Named on every timetable slot

Founded Welcome Pilates in 2018. 10+ years practising, 6+ teaching.
Lucy found Pilates at university, during a period of particularly poor mental health, and it gave her somewhere to escape to while she studied for her degree. What stayed with her was that the exercises were never punishing: her teacher encouraged the room to listen to their bodies and take whichever option felt good that day. That is the class she teaches now.
She teaches Monday evenings at Holy Trinity, Wednesday and Friday online, and delivers every one to one session at the Battersea studio. She holds Level 3 Body Control Pilates Mat, Level 3 Pre and Postnatal, Reformer Advanced, and Reformer, Cadillac and Chair. She also hosts the studio's retreats in Italy.
“It's humbling for me, you can't 'complete' Pilates, it's a constant growing experience which has taught me so much more than just a list of exercises.”

Julia had been lifting weights and exercising for about twenty years. As she stepped into her mid forties her body started telling her it needed something different, and a hip injury made that impossible to ignore.
Two months into classes with Lucy she felt like a new person. She still lifts and she still walks a lot. With Pilates in the mix, her body feels strong, supported and, in her words, genuinely grateful.
“Starting Pilates with Lucy completely shifted things: two months on, I feel like a new person.”
Julia, Welcome Pilates member

Private sessions are worth considering if you are completely new to Pilates, or if you are working around a specific injury or health concern. They are also how people work on the equipment. Each session is built around you, in person at the Battersea studio or live online.
